The Samsung CLP-300N is only slightly larger than your average inkjet printer, but it a fully functioning colour laser printer. Because the unit is so small in requires a new type of printer cartridges design than the usual blade shape Samsung toner cartridges. The Samsung CLP-300 toner cartridges are small cylindrical tubes that slot very neatly into the printer behind the front panel and are very easily accessible. One disadvantage of the downsizing is that the CLX-300N uses a single imaging drum which slows colour printing speeds to 4ppm from 16ppm for mono printing. As for print quality the CLP-300n performs well on most types of documents, with a maximum resolution of 2400 x 600dpi mono pages have clear and sharp detail and the same goes for the colour prints. Photo prints are probably the printer’s weakest point with colours looking a little pale and washed out in general. Built quality of the unit feel solid and confirms that the clp-300n is a good value and won’t just work for a few months and then fall to bits. Running costs are reasonable with a cost per page of 2p for black and 10p using genuine Samsung products but can be reduced by using compatible Samsung toner cartridges. Being the “n” model the printer has a built-in Ethernet connection so can be shared between numerous PCs. Overall the CLP-300n is a great value for money printer.
