The Epson Stylus SX200 is an impressive looking machine and it’s hard to believe that is actually an all-in-one and not just a standard inkjet printer. Running costs are affordable too which make a change for a printer in this category, a set of Epson SX200 ink cartridges can be purchased as a multi-pack for under £30 and consists of four individual Epson ink cartridges which means you only have to change each separate cartridge as they run out. There are also compatible printer cartridges avaible for the SX200 which can cost up to 60% less than the genuine Epson inks. Being a multifunctional device you would expect the SX200 to have a long list of features and it does and some surprises to like PC-free copying and direct printing from memory cards and digital camera thanks to its built in memory card reader and PictBridge connection. To be honest these are a bit of a novelty and the most important feature of the SX200 is how it prints, while the quality is excellent for all types of documents including high quality photo prints, its let down in the speed in which it prints. The official spec says that the SX200 is capable of 34ppm (pages per minute) but this is in draft quality and the print in draft quality is barley readable and therefore useless. Increasing the quality reduces speed considerable and turns a once very fast printer on paper into a very slow one in reality, the average speed for printing text is around 4ppm in standard quality setting. Despite this revelation the Stylus SX200 is still a good solid all-rounder.
